the Viking Trail

Over 1000 years ago, and 500 years before Christopher Columbus, the Vikings discovered and settled the Americas. Sailing in sturdy wooden boats, the hop-scotched from Scandinavia to the British Isles, to Iceland, to Greenland, then to Labrador, Newfoundland, where they established a settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows. Archaeologists in the 1970's discovered this site, and have documented that it is in fact a Norse village. Likely, there are others further south that have not yet been found. Interesting stuff.
